Southern College of Optometry was in the spotlight at the Volunteer Memphis Awards, taking home two of the top categories for our service to the Memphis community.
The awards recognize “individuals, civic groups, non-profits, and companies who represent excellence in volunteerism and make the Mid-South a better place.”
Jan Frazier-Scott from SCO’s Human Resources team was named the 2018 Volunteer of the Year for her commitment for her service through the NAACP Memphis chapter and her sorority Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. The Volunteer of the Year Award is awarded to a volunteer has demonstrated significant hours of service for 2018. Jan’s award was presented by host Stephanie Scurlock, News Channel 3 anchor.
SCO was awarded the Corporate Citizens Award in the Medium Companies category for our commitment to service by providing eye care and participation in various service projects in the Mid-South including Project Homeless Connect, EyeSpy: A Day at the Zoo, Eye Serve Memphis, and many others. The Corporate Citizens Award recognizes companies that have positively influenced and impacted the local community and that has demonstrated a strong concentration of service in the community through outreach and employee engagement. The award was accepted by Kate Bucko, Interim Director of Grants & Community Engagement.
